Abstract:

BACKGROUND: Three-dimensional measurement techniques can help orthodontists to easily make correct diagnosis, treatment plan, treatment outcome prediction and assessment.
OBJECTIVE: To discuss the application of three-dimensional measurement techniques in orthodontics.
METHODS: Articles about the application of three-dimensional measurement techniques in orthodontics were retrieved from CNKI and PubMed with the key words of “three-dimensional measurement technique; orthodontic; malocclusion; facial deformity” in both Chinese and English from January 1997 and January 2010. Articles in the same circle published in the authoritative journals or recently published were included. Among 145 articles, 22 were selected in the final analysis.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: There is increased awareness and application of three-dimensional measurement techniques in the orthodontic field, and three-dimensional measurement technique develops rapidly and has a place in orthodontics.
